Pastor James has served churches in Kentucky, Texas, and now North Carolina in various capacities. He is married to Ashley and holds degrees from Southwestern and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminaries as well as the University of Kentucky. When he is not at the church equipping disciple makers and working on sermon preparation, you can find him cheering on the Tennessee Vols, reading a book, listening to music, or figuring out where to travel next. Pastor James loves that Beach Road is rooted in the Word and pursues biblical community.
Associate Pastor for Pastoral Care and Senior Adults
Pastor Jimmie served his country in the U.S. Army and in the Department of Defense and Homeland Security as a defense contractor. Pastor Jimmie graduated from Liberty University Baptist Theological Seminary in 2014 with a Master's degree in Theological Studies. He is married to his incredible wife, Sandy, and they have three sons and nine grandchildren. When Jimmie is not visiting someone, you can often find him on the golf course, or just relaxing at home with a good book. Pastor Jimmie loves the people of Beach Road; especially how they love and care for each other.
Pastor Woody graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from UNC Wilmington in 1993 and is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity in Preaching and Pastoral Ministry at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is married to his wonderful bride, Criss, and has four children with one grandchild on the way! Woody formerly had a 30+ year career in the hospitality industry, but is excited to be serving in full-time ministry. Woody is an avid Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan and enjoys watching college football and basketball. Pastor Woody's favorite thing about Beach Road is that it is a family where the truth of the Gospel is central, discipleship is a focus, and the world is engaged.
Matthew Overcash was raised in China Grove, NC, moved to the area in 2004, and now resides in Southport with his wife, Carysa, and their two boys. Matt has served in ministry throughout the majority of his adult life. In 2003, he graduated from the North Carolina College of Theology with a Bachelor's degree in Theology. He continued on to earn his Master's degree in Biblical Studies. When Matt is not at the church you can find him suited up as the PE teacher for Southport Christian School and as the head coach for one of his son's little league baseball teams. Matt is convinced that Beach Road has the best people you will ever meet!
Adam Hilpert, born and raised in Lincolnton, NC, came to the area by way of Fort Caswell where he served for the last four years. Currently enrolled at The College at Southeastern, Adam is studying Biblical Studies. Adam answered the call into youth minsitry in 2016 and fell in love with showing students how to live a life that is glorifyng to God. If you ask Adam what his favorite things are, he would respond with “I love Jesus, disc golf, and the North Carolina Tar Heels." When he is not hanging out with a youth on the disc golf course you can find him hanging in his Eno or studying for class. Adam loves that Beach Road is a close-knit family that welcomes anybody and everybody.
Financial Data Specialist
Mary Nichols is native to the Southport area and has served the church since 2017 as Financial Data Specialist. Along with her husband, Tait, and children, Mary has faithfully attended Beach Road Baptist Church since 2013 and has personally witnessed God's faithfulness in both her life and the church. When she is not working you can find her spending time with her family and supporting her children's interests. Mary loves the people of Beach Road, the interactions she has with our members, and how they show their hearts for Jesus and for each other.
London Schmidt was raised in Eastern NC, graduated from UNC Wilmington, and now lives in Brunswick County with her family. Upon graduation, London expanded her expertise with a company that allowed her to explore her creativity through photography, graphics, and advertising. She loves clever marketing and well-planned events. The Schmidt family loves being on the water and spends a lot of their free time fishing together. They have attended Beach Road since 2017 and are grateful for the warm, God-centered, and family atmosphere the church provides.
